The payoff

Why Water Polo?

It's so much more than a sport — here's what your athlete really takes home.

01

Teamwork

Six players, one heartbeat. Polo teaches kids to trust, talk, and win together.

02

Discipline

Treading water builds grit — show-up-and-grind habits that carry into the classroom.

03

New Friends

The squad becomes the friend group. Carpools, team dinners, and lifelong crews.

04

College Scholarships

Water polo opens doors. Our coaches help athletes get seen and recruited at the next level.

05

Well-Rounded

Strength, speed, smarts, and sportsmanship — the ultimate all-around athlete.

06

Confidence & Fitness

Strong body, strong mind. Kids stand taller in and out of the pool.

Before You Can Play

USA Water Polo Membership — Required

Quick heads-up for new families! Joining Foothill has two simple parts that go hand in hand. First, you register and pay your session fees with the club — that’s us. Second, each athlete needs their own annual USA Water Polo membership, which is what clears them to be rostered for games and tournaments like Junior Olympics. It’s a once-a-year fee paid directly to USA Water Polo and is separate from your club fees, so you’ll just want both in place before the season starts. Not sure about any of it? Reach out anytime — we’re always happy to walk you through it.

Foothill Club ID: 16519
  1. Go to USAWaterPolo.org and click “Join Now.”
  2. Choose the Gold (Elite Athlete) membership — the highest tier and the only one that allows play in Junior Olympics. (Currently $154/yr — confirm the current rate at signup.)
  3. Under Individual Membership, click “Join Now” to start the steps.
  4. Complete the age verification step — you’ll upload documentation (typically a passport or birth certificate).
  5. For club affiliation, select Foothill Club — search by our Club ID 16519 so you pick the right club and we can roster your athlete.
⚠️ SafeSport training: All athletes 18 & over must complete USA Water Polo’s SafeSport training at sign-up. If an athlete is 17 at registration and turns 18 during the membership year, the membership becomes temporarily ineligible and a SafeSport assignment appears on their USAWP profile — eligibility is restored as soon as it’s completed.
What a Gold (Elite) membership includes
  • Eligibility for all USA Water Polo sanctioned events — including Junior Olympics
  • Premier athlete insurance coverage while competing
  • Olympic Development Program (ODP) — camps, Zone Team & regional/national championships
  • National Team Selection Camp eligibility
  • Academic All-American program (high school)
  • Quarterly SkipShot magazine & member-only gear
  • Access to local & regional sanctioned leagues & tournaments
  • ODP holiday camps & skills clinics

Is a USA Water Polo membership required?+
Yes. On top of club registration, every athlete needs an active annual USA Water Polo membership to be rostered for games and tournaments like Junior Olympics. It’s a once-a-year fee paid directly to USA Water Polo (separate from club fees); Junior Olympics requires the Gold / Elite Athlete tier. Sign up at USAWaterPolo.org and select Foothill Club — our Club ID is 16519. Athletes 18 & over must also complete USA Water Polo’s SafeSport training to be eligible. Full steps are in the USA Water Polo Membership section above.
Is there really a free trial?+
Yes, and we mean it — the first two weeks are completely free for every new athlete. Just come to a practice, say hi, and jump in. No forms, no commitment, no pressure. We'd love to meet you.
What do session fees cover?+
It all goes right back to your athlete — coaching (1–2 coaches per practice, per team), pool rental, and team equipment. Everything we need to run a great season.
Do we need a uniform?+
Just a couple of pieces — a Foothill suit and a bit of branded gear so the team looks sharp on deck and your kid feels like part of the squad. You can grab it all anytime from our Team Store.
What should we bring?+
Easy — a swimsuit, towel, water bottle, and goggles. That's all you need to get started, and we'll walk you through caps and gear once you're on a team.
How do we register?+
Click Register Now at the top or bottom of this page and follow the steps to sign up for water polo. Looking for Splashball or Club Swim instead? Choose it from the menu and register on that page. Stuck or have a question? Call (909) 294-6628 or email info@foothillclubwaterpolo.org and a real person will help.
Does my child need any experience?+
Not at all — and honestly, that's our specialty. Most of our athletes start as complete beginners, and our coaches are great at making first-timers feel right at home. If your kid is comfortable in the water, we'll teach them the rest.
What does it cost?+
These are our Foothill Club session fees — $350 to $600 per session by age group, with our youngest groups the most affordable and high school at the top. They cover coaching, pool time & equipment for the whole session. Payment plans or pay-in-full are available, and we never want cost to be the reason a kid can't play — if money's tight, just reach out. The annual USA Water Polo membership is a separate fee (see the membership section above).
Are there game fees too?+
A little extra on game weekends, yes. Game fees are billed to your account afterward — usually around $25 a game, with about four games a weekend. We aim for two weekends a month and 10–16 games a session, so your athlete gets plenty of real game experience.
How are age groups decided?+
By “water polo age” — how old your athlete will be on August 1. Not sure? Pop a birthday into our Age Group Calculator on this page and it'll point you to the right group.
Where and when are practices?+
We train at five great pools around the Inland Empire — see Our Pools on the Schedule page for locations. Each team’s weekly times are posted under Water Polo Practice Times up top — just tap your team to see its schedule.
